I'm a marketer by trade, and with that it's played

I'm a marketer by trade, and with that it's played a major role into my resume writing. Whenever I start a process with a new client, the first thing I tell them is they have homework to complete for me, which is to find 5 links to current job postings that appeal to them and send them prior to our strategy meeting.

Why do I do that? The reason is simple. In order to properly "sell" yourself to a potential employer, you need to market yourself based on what they're looking for.

When you're applying to jobs, you are now the product, and the company is the customer. In the end, you want the customer to purchase the product you're promoting--AKA, you!

When creating my client's new resume, I sit down with them and learn about their key product features, including important projects they spearheaded, awards they earned, accomplishments they're most proud of, and much more. In other words, I interview my client to pull out what's most important to create a compelling branding document that promotes their product to their target customer (industry, company, position title, whatever their goal may be).

Resume writing is no longer reiterating what your job description said. It's about showing your VALUE. Your WHY.
